Jake was not a successful candidate as he struggled with the lyrics and didn't know the chords very well or the tempo of the song.
I chose the last candidate Liam, due to his ability to play the song as well as his ability to sing the song as he knows the lyrics and chords I feel that he has the right kind of look for the genre of the song, such as the dreadlocks.
An obvious prop shall be a guitar, however I like the idea of the artist listening back over a song that he may be recording, therefore, headphones are another prop.
Liam is also a very good skater and I feel that including some footage of him skating maybe quite nice to act as fill shots.
As for clothing, it is important that it appears natural and therefore any type of clothing shall work as long they are relaxed and casual.
In order for my idea of having three of the same person in the same shot, I liked the idea of having each individual wearing different clothing which will emphasize the idea of the fact that they are different aspects of the same person.
From the audition with Liam, I also feel that the watersplash is a possible location.
From the audition with Liam, I also feel that the watersplash is a possible location.
Given that the tempo of the song which I'm likely to use is quite fast, i know that my editing is going to be fast in order to complement this tempo. Knowing the way that I'm going to edit, I need to find a narrative/storyboard which also works. For a location(s), I wanted to create the impression of practicing rather than a performance. For this I could use a studio in order to create this practice/recording ambiance. My other choice of exterior location, is likely to be something with a good view as well as interesting surroundings. An example of this would be the Dolmans, as I feel that the surrounding trees create a wooded ambiance as well as a frame for some types of shots which I could use involving the artist, which is something similar to the John Butler Trio. Using this location would be effective, and depending on whether I film either night or day, i could make the Dolmans an appropriate place to craft my project.
I also like this location for my photoshoot to create my poster and digi-pak.
Liam's Bedroom
In order to make my video appear natural I wanted to use a location that my actor was comfortable in. Therefore I felt that the use of his bedroom was an appropriate location.
The song 'You Don't Need Me' - Ed Sheeran has three factors to it which are heard and can be therefore seen and filmed. The beat-boxing which acts as the drumbeat, guitar picking riff which is heard throughout and then the rhythm guitar. As I am planning only to use one artist, I thought of the idea that there could be three of the same person, each doing there separate part of the song, however creating the idea that there are three of the same person. If possible, I could create a sequence which involved the three individuals (of the same person), where different clothing to give this idea, using an overlay effect on the same angle to have three of the same person in the same clip. I could do this through using Final Cut Pro and After Effects. I want to do this technique as it would be different from other music videos being created.
For this idea to work, I'd need an interior location meaning that nothing can move around which is the problem of being outside such as movement of trees or birds etc.
Therefore, I'm going to use a studio as one of my locations, where my artist can practice, record and listen back to the song that he is playing which is the song I am making a music video for.
I chose to use this location as it is, in my opinion, very natural and believable as a studio.
I feel that this location has character illustrated by the posters and signs.
The fact that there is instruments here shows that it is a frequently used location again making it believable and therefore more effective.
Multiple chairs allows for different areas to sit meaning that my idea of the overlay with the three people is possible here.
The high amounts of PA systems and amps will account for a lot of effective depth of field shots which can be used as fill shots.
Also, having a computer at this location will allow for shots of my artist listening back to his song meaning that I can recreate shots that are similar to the Ben Howard - The Wolves.
Potential Artists
Tom Butel
Due to the genre of music which I would like my project to be revolved around, I chose candidates which resemble the stereotypical look of an artist who would create the type of music that my video is similar to. For example, dreadlocks however, Tom no longer has them, but I still feel that he is suitable to be in my project.
As well as the right type of style, both Tom and Liam can play guitar which was something that I was looking for when choosing someone to use as it means that I can put more detail into my video with close-up shots of them playing the right notes/chords of the song which I choose, meaning that my final piece will not be regarded as 'cheesy' and will therefore seem more professional, which is how I'd like my project to turn out.
